Hi Tonya:

A friend gave me your blog -- Mary Ann Downing. Very cool. I'm an inventor living in Carlsbad, CA, and started a small group called Women Inventors Network. Would love to meet you one morning for coffee as schedules and location permit. Please email me when you get a spare moment. I've begun attending San Diego Inventors Forum, which I really appreciate. It meets in the evening, though, and that's tough for many people.

So exciting about being on Fox!!!

Best to you. Sincerely, Thalia Poulos of Efthalia Designs

Hi Tonya, Hi, good luck with your news spot. Smile, be prepared and talk to "us Moms" about the cool stuff that we'd love to know about! If you need a Safety Turtle for your demo, call me I have one. I'm the "Pool Safety Mom" and a rep for the Safety Turtle folks-Terrapin. I'm part of the San Diego SafeKids Drowning Task Force (we've shown the Safety Turtle on 2 news spots, most recently KUSI early news last week)(keep it in the news, it's a great product and works!), and part of the drowning prevention message includes layers of protection. As you mention the Safety Turtle (would you like to borrow one?) please remember to mention that Drowning is Preventable with the ABCs- Adult supervison and alarms (knowing where your kids are- because drowning is silent), B for Barriers and layers of protection especially isolation, 4 sided fencing or safety covers to keep kids out of the water, and C for Classes, like CPR and water safety and SWIMming skills.

If I can help, call me! Mary Ann Downing, 858-603-2260

I was reading your blog, and I wanted to share a contest with you that might be of interest to your readers as well as yourself.

Whirlpool brand has recently kicked-off the fourth annual Mother of Invention Grant Program. In the past three years, Whirlpool brand has recognized and helped more than 15 moms turn their innovative ideas into reality.

The Whirlpool brand Mother of Invention Grant Program provides seed money and expert guidance to moms to turn their invention, business or service ideas into full-fledged businesses. Contest winners receive:

- A $20,000 grant for the grand prize winner
-$24,000 in grant money for the four runners-up

- Appliance prizes

-Invitation to business boot camp where winners will receive guidance from Whirlpool and industry experts

This year, we are greening the program by adding a new category focused on moms who create an environmentally friendly product/service or use natural/recycled materials to create their invention.

More information and entry forms can be found at www.whirlpool.com/moms. Entries are accepted through July 31, 2008.

Best,
Laura

Hi Tonya,
I am 32 (as of 4 days ago) I have 4 kids with the oldest being 6 years. I recently quit working when my youngest was born. Since that moment my head has been swirling with inventions. I really have no idea where to start. I get discouraged when I see that my idea has already been thought of, but I don't want to give up so easy. Right now I have an idea and I have sold my husband on it, he is my "idea filter." Well, he is really excited about this idea but I don't know where to go from here. It is in the very rough...very very very rough stages now. I am trying to construct it using items around the house. Do you have any step by step process you could share with me? For example, do I make it myself, then try it out, then what? I've read your blog and appreciate you being so real. Thanks for listening and if you could offer any help I would appreciate it.
